We have a new tomato this spring, Box Car Willie. Box Car Willie is an indeterminate, heirloom, regular-leaf, tall, vigorous, tomato plant that yields abundant crops of 10 to 16-ounce, bright-orange/red slicer tomatoes. It is a good sauce tomato, salad tomato or perfect for tomato juice. A good all season tomato that produces well until frost. Boxcar Willie is great for a home garden. It has good resistance to disease and cracking.
Here is a recipe for fresh salsa! I hope it doesn’t make you too anxious for spring!
Fresh Salsa
3 ups of chopped tomatoes
1/2 cup of chopped green bell peppers
1 cup onion diced
1/4 minced cilantro
2 Tablespoons fresh lime juice
4 teaspoons fresh chopped jalapeno peppers
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
Stir the tomatoes, green bell pepper, onion, cilantro, lime juice, jalapeno pepper, cumin, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Serve.
